Clarksville, Ark.- The University of the Ozarks softball team earned a spot on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Academic Team, while several players were also recognized as scholar-athletes, announced by the association this week.

Under the direction of head coach Roland Rodriguez, the Eagles received the accolade after posting a 3.02 grade point average as a team during the 2016-17 academic year, making the program among the top-125 teams in all of NCAA Division III.

The Eagles also saw six players achieve NFCA/Easton Scholar-Athlete honors for maintaining at least a 3.50 grade point average. That list includes Kayla Gray, Laken Gray, Brooke Hoffsommer, Brooklyn Keeling, Cheyanna Miller and Krysten Shavers.

A new NFCA record for most scholar-athletes across its seven membership divisions was set with 7,365 student-athletes who posted a 3.5 GPA or higher being recognized. NCAA Division I led the way with 1,843 recipients, while NCAA Division III placed close behind with 1,825 selections.
