Lady Eagles Pick Up Key Road Win

Lady Eagles Pick Up Key Road Win

Abilene, Texas-The Lady Eagles shot nearly 60 percent from the field in the second half and Taylor Farmer scored 21 points to lead Ozarks to a key 72-69 road win over Hardin-Simmons University Saturday in American Southwest Conference play.

Ozarks (5-12, 4-10 ASC) trailed 29-24 at the half, but outscored Hardin-Simmons 48-40 in the second half to secure a road victory. The Lady Eagles had an outstanding performance from the field in the second half to fuel the win, hitting 19-of-32 (59%) from the floor. Farmer scored 15 of her 21 points in the second half. Hardin-Simmons (6-10, 6-7 ASC) appeared to have the game in control when it held a 46-34 advantage with 14:10 left. But the Lady Eagles slowly chiseled the lead down to 50-44 after Tamara Wilkett completed a three-point play. Another Wilkett basket, followed by a Jordana Andrews shot, and the Lady Eagles were in position to take the lead. Ozarks did just that as Farmer evened the score, 50-50, with 9:20 remaining. The junior forward would later score twice more to give Ozarks a 56-55 lead with 7:21 left. Hardin-Simmons eventually took a 69-66 advantage, but Ashley Hipps drilled a clutch three-pointer to tie the contest, and Andrews followed with a jump shot to give Ozarks a 71-69 lead with under one minute to play. Hardin-Simmons wouldn't score again against Ozarks' stout defensive effort. Ozarks committed only four turnovers in the second half to maximize its offensive opportunities.

Andrews finished with 12 points. Wilkett and Hipps each added 10 points. Kindra Davis pulled down ten rebounds.

Ozarks will travel to LeTourneau University January 30 and East Texas Baptist University February 1.
