Women’s Basketball Hangs On For ASC Win

Clarksville, Ark.-Macie Kultgen made a running inside shot over a pair of defenders to push Ozarks past Sul Ross State University 55-54 in American Southwest Conference play Saturday afternoon.

With Ozarks (4-2, 1-1 ASC) trailing 54-53, Kultgen weaved her way through the Sul Ross (3-9, 0-4 ASC) defense to score the game-winning basket with 54 seconds left. Ozarks would need one more stop to clinch the win as Sul Ross possessed the ball with 11 ticks on the clock. Sul Ross was unable to convert its final shot in a back-and-forth second half.

The Eagles started strong opening the game on a 11-0 run before the Lobos would score. Ozarks owned a 17-10 first quarter advantage and a 26-21 halftime lead. Ozarks displayed a tenacious effort defensively, forcing Sul Ross into 13 first half turnovers.

Sul Ross held the lead on a couple of occasions in the fourth quarter, but Ozarks would take the lead back. Madison Sherrer fueled Ozarks in the second half with 10 points, including hitting a big shot from long-range with 4:44 left.

Sherrer paced Ozarks with 16 points and Kultgen finished with 14 points.

Ozarks will host Howard Payne University January 4 in conference play.
