ON THE MAT
The Eagles won a team championship at the Richland College Southwest Scuffle Saturday in Texas. Nathaneal Rankin (125) and Matthew Garcia (235) both won individual championships. Corey Muniz (125) won fourth place. Rankin defeated Tony Vo of University of Texas (TF 18-1, 3:18) and then had a win over Trevor Compton from Ottawa University (F 1:03). Rankin posted a win against Nickolas Ornelas from Neosho County Community College (F 2:51) to advance to the championship match. There, he took down Noah Martinez from Ottawa University (F 4:39). Muniz wrestled Jozighus Thomas from Ottawa University and won (TF 18-0 3:18). He then defeated Jesse Gomez from Wayland Baptist University (TF 18-0, 1:55) before losing to Martinez. Garcia won against Nick Emery from University of Houston-Downtown (DEC 9-3 ). He posted a win against Ikaika Neal from University of North Texas (DEC 4-2) to advance, and then defeated Nelson Fuentes from University of Houston-Downtown (DEC 3-1) for the championship.
