ON THE MAT
Greensboro, N.C.-The Eagles placed fourth at the Southeast Conference Championship Tournament in North Carolina Saturday. The Eagles had five wrestlers finish in the top-3, led by Nathan Rankin in the 125-pound class. The freshman from Plano, Texas, won by injury default over Zachary Beckner from Ferrum College in the first place match. Rankin won by fall over Brett Binnix from Ferrum College and won by fall over Gabriel Wilson from Greensboro to advance to the championship match. Devon Jackson also made some noise in the 125-pound weight class. After a loss against Zachary Beckner from Ferrum College, Jackson came back and won by fall over Samuel Braswell from Averett University and then won by fall over Gabriel Wilson from Greensboro to achieve third place. Also finishing among the top-3 were Mario Vasquez, Ny'Trell Dean and Cameron Barnes. Vasquez (141) won by tech fall over Mason Blakeney from Huntingdon College, won by decision over Zachary Rainess from Greensboro, and in the first-place match lost to DeAndre Beck from Huntingdon College by decision to place second. Dean (141) won by fall over William Merritt  from Averett University, lost to Zachary Wilson from Greensboro, won by fall over Christopher Fletcher from Southern Virginia University and then won by fall over Clifford Harrison from Ferrum College to place third. Barnes (197) won by decision over Matt Speelman from Southern Virginia University, lost to Antavian Leary from Ferrum College by decision, then won by fall over Ty`korious Walker from Huntingdon College and won by fall over Carlos Ortega from Greensboro for third place.
