Men's Wrestling Opens Season With Two Dual Wins

Shelton Chastain and the Eagles went 2-0 in Texas.

Clarksville, Ark.-The men's wrestling team opened the 2023-2024 season in impressive fashion with wins against Schreiner University and Texas Wesleyan University on Wednesday.

The Eagles posted a 28-17 win against Schreiner and a 30-11 win against Texas Wesleyan. On the day, Shelton Chastain, Johnathon Ward, James Johnson, Jake Dado, Carter Taylor, Gabriel Brandenburg and Ka'Ron Lewis went undefeated. Against Schreiner, Chastain, wrestling at 125, won by technical fall against Jose Salinas Nava. Taylor won by fall against Domingo Davila at 133. Johnson posted a win by decision against Aaron Aragon at 157. Ward won by a major decision against Jayden McLean and Lewis won by major decision against Christian Prehar. Against Texas Wesleyan, Chastain won by major decision against Nehemiah Ventura. Brandenburg won by technical fall against Jack O'Neil at 133. At 141, Dado won by decision against Mason Woodward. Hayden Rofkahr won by major decision against Gavin Holland at 149. Johnson won by decision against Brady Earhart. Ward won by technical fall against Hayden Ulrich and Lewis won by fall against Wilbert Martin.

"The men came and showed out today," said head coach Vinny Barber. "It was a great way to start the season with two dual wins. For being this early in the season, we are seeing some great things. We were able to get some other guys in the lineup against Schreiner and get them some valuable dual meet experience. They did a great job answering the call. We are looking forward to the Maryville Open this weekend with this crew."
