Eagles Win Home-Opener

Clarksville, Ark.-The men's wrestling team posted a thrilling 27-17 win over Carl Albert College in the 2023-2024 home-opener.  

A large crowd gathered outside to watch the annual event put on by the Eagles. The Eagles fought to three straight wins to open the afternoon. At 125, Shelton Chastain took a technical fall win over Eric Hussaini (TF 16-1 3:11). Gabriel Brandenburg followed with a win by fall against Gabe Aldaco (Fall 4:08) at 133. At 141, Jakob Zawosky took a win by fall over Kason Mitchell (Fall 4:34). James Johnson had win by decision against Cody Riddell (Dec 12-7) at 157. At 174, Johnathon Ward had a win by decision against Josiah Rhodes (Dec 6-3). Ka`Ron Lewis capped the match with a major decision against Austin Blair (MD 12-4). The win put the Eagles at 3-0 in duals this season.

Head coach Vinny Barber felt like his team rose to the occasion today.

"We started off wrestling really well," said Barber. "The guys responded nicely after some adversity. Dan looked great right away. John did a great job understanding and controlling his match. Ka'Ron looked good on his feet and played the match well. It got tense toward the end and I am proud of how our team handled ourselves."
