Kerrville, Texas-New coach Cullen Dees picked up his first win as a collegiate head coach with a 5-4 win over Sul Ross State University Friday in Kerrville, Texas.
The Eagles (1-2) suffered a 8-1 setback against Howard Payne University later that night. Against Sul Ross State, Ozarks won at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Elly Eibes and Andrea Munoz won 8-3 at No.2, while Imani Doyle and Olivia Allard won 8-0 at No. 3. In singles play, Eibes was victorious 6-0, 6-0 over Jaedyn Gutierrez at the No. 4 position.
"It was a great trip," said Dees. "It was just what we needed to get our season started. We played some really tough competition. There were a couple matches where we didn't play our best, but for early in the season, I saw great tennis from everyone this weekend. I am proud of the team. We are happy with where we are and the direction we're going."
On Saturday, Schreiner University handed the Eagles a 9-0 loss.
Ozarks will travel to Conway February 20 to face John Brown University and Hendrix College.
