Tennis Teams Earn Academic Awards

12 members of the University of the Ozarks women's and men?s tennis teams received academic recognition from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), it was announced by college tennis' governing body July 29.

Clarksville, Ark.-The University of the Ozarks women's and men's tennis programs received academic recognition from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), it was announced by college tennis' governing body recently.  
     
The women's team earned the ITA Team Academic Award. It is the fifth time the program has achieved the team award. In order to receive the award, the team must have a combined team grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.00 scale). The women's program also had six athletes on the ITA Scholar-Athlete Team. The team included Skylar Frazier, junior mathematics major from Pocahontas, Ark.; Jessica Gayle, a freshman biology major from Angleton, Texas; Annie Nelligan, a freshman undeclared major from Fort Smith, Ark.; Anna Ryan, a senior business administration major from Woodville, Miss.; Emily Saniseng, a freshman chemistry major from Van Buren, Ark.; and Lea Terrell, a junior accounting major from Murfreesboro, Ark.

The men's team had three athletes on the ITA Scholar-Athlete Team. The honorees included Theodoros Efstathopoulos, a freshman communications studies major from Athens, Greece; Jan Puvil Fuertes, a freshman business administration major from Barcelona, Spain; and Kao Lenkopane, a freshman business administration major from Botswana, Africa.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must be a letterwinner and maintain a GPA of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year.
