Newport News, Va.-Junior Hannah Smith and senior Stephanie Alderson finished the 2017 cross country season with a pair of strong performances at the NCAA III South/Southeast Regional Saturday in Virginia.

Smith placed 62^nd overall in the 6K, while Alderson placed 178^th overall. Smith broke her own school 6K record with a time of 23:28.04. Alderson ran a 26:17.29, bettering her 6K time from the ASC Championships. Both runners improved from last season's NCAA III Regional as Smith finished 103^rd and Alderson finished 192^nd. There were 235 competitors in the women's race. Smith and Alderson were the only participants from Ozarks women's team. Gabrielle Stravach from Emory won the 2017 South/Southeast Regional with a time of 21:04.55.
