Newport News, Va.-Junior Hannah Smith and senior Stephanie Alderson finished the 2017 cross country season with a pair of strong performances at the NCAA III South/Southeast Regional Saturday in Virginia.
Smith placed 62nd overall in the 6K, while Alderson placed 178th overall. Smith broke her own school 6K record with a time of 23:28.04. Alderson ran a 26:17.29, bettering her 6K time from the ASC Championships. Both runners improved from last season's NCAA III Regional as Smith finished 103rd and Alderson finished 192nd. There were 235 competitors in the women's race. Smith and Alderson were the only participants from Ozarks women's team. Gabrielle Stravach from Emory won the 2017 South/Southeast Regional with a time of 21:04.55.
