THE BASICS
Texas Dallas edged the Eagles 64-60 Saturday in a big conference matchup. The Eagles led 26-24 at halftime and held the normally strong shooting Comets to 22 percent from the field in the first twenty minutes of play. Cordy Winston paced the Eagles with 13 first half points. The Comets came back to hit 52 percent from the floor in the second half. Trailing 58-45 with less than four minutes remaining, the Eagles produced back-to-back three-pointers to quickly climb back into the game. A layup by Bryson Johnson with 1:38 remaining brought the Eagles to within 60-53. Jacobe Davis later followed with a layup and the Eagles trailed 60-55 with 43 seconds left. After a Comet missed free throw, Davis drove to the basket for yet another layup and the Eagles trailed 60-58 with 20 seconds left. The Comets answered with two free throws, but Davis wasn't done as he drove inside for a shot to cut it to 62-60 at the 12 second mark. But the Comets hit two free throws and the Eagles missed both of their shot attempts with less than five seconds left. Winston scored a team-high 17 points to lead the Eagles. Cory Wilhelm pulled down 13 rebounds.
