THE BASICS
The Eagles played well enough to win a big conference matchup against UT Dallas but were unable to secure the game as the Comets won 79-75 Wednesday night. The Comets overcame a career game from Bryson Johnson, who poured in 37 points. Johnson scored 27 points in the second half. UT Dallas jumped out to a 10-0 lead to open the game and held a 32-24 halftime advantage. Zach Byrd dominated the boards pulling down 14 in the first half. In the second half, the Eagles rode the hot hand of Johnson. With the Comets leading by double digits with less than nine minutes to play, the Eagles made a run. Johnson scored ten straight points to put the Eagles within 66-58 at the 4:07 mark. Another three-pointer by Johnson later cut the deficit to 66-63. Zach Byrd hit a three-pointer at the 2:15 mark to make it 68-66. After the Comets scored, Johnson hit a bucket to make it a two point game again with 1:04 left. From there, UT Dallas held off more points from Johnson in the final minute. Johnson went 13-of-26 from the field, including 5-of-11 from the three-point line. Byrd had 18 rebounds and ten points.
