Eagles Surge In Second Half For A Comeback Win

Layla Powell scored a career high 19 points in a win against McMurry.

THE BASICS
Abilene, Texas – The Eagles overcame a 53-45 fourth quarter deficit to even their conference record to 2-2 with a 72-70 win over McMurry University Thursday night. The Eagles trailed 56-47 two minutes into the fourth quarter before making a comeback. The Eagles surged on a run 8-0 run to pull within 56-55. Brittany Temple's jumper with 4:19 left in the game gave the Eagles a 61-60 lead. Amanda Turpin's layup and made free throw lifted the Eagles to a 68-67 advantage and a lead it wouldn't relinquish with 19 seconds left in the game. In an odd turn of events, McMurry was awarded six free throw shots in the final seven seconds of the game.  But the Eagles kept the lead the entire time. The Eagles trailed 42-28 at halftime. The Eagles had a strong night rebounding the ball holding a 56-40 advantage. Judy Forbes pulled down 15 boards, while Amanda Turpin recorded 11. Layla Powell came off the bench to record a career night at Ozarks. Powell scored 19 points to lead the Eagles. Powell went 9-of-10 from the free throw line. Forbes (12 points) and Turpin (11 points) both had double-doubles for the Eagles.
