Women's Soccer Players Honored By Conference

Eight members of the women's soccer team were honored by the ASC.

Clarksville, Ark.- Seven University of the Ozarks women's soccer team members earned a spot on the American Southwest Conference All-Conference Team, the league office announced Thursday, November 9.
    
All seven were named to the Honorable Mention Team and it included senior midfielder Mason Faucher, junior goalkeeper Melanie Glossup, sophomore defender Cassidy Hughes, senior defender Nadia Martinez, sophomore forward Taliana Schmidt, sophomore forward Savannah Solloway and junior defender Halley Wheeler. Additionally, senior Claudia Garcia was named the co-Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year. 

Faucher, a native of Sachse, Texas, started in all 17 games scoring one goal and recording one assist. Faucher's play in the midfield helped the Eagles' defense notch a program record six shutouts. She finishes her career with five career goals and 29 career shots.

Glossup, a native of Allen, Texas, started in all 17 matches and notched four shutouts. Glossup helped the Eagles begin the season with three consecutive shutouts. She ended the year with seven wins and a 1.54 goals against average. She recorded 68 saves. She had seven saves in a shutout road win against Austin College. She later recorded a season-high 11 saves against Mary Hardin-Baylor. 

Hughes, a native of Kennedale, Texas, started in all 17 matches and guided the Eagles to one of its stoutest defenses in school history. Hughes' steady play in the back gave the Eagles one of its best starts in program history with a 7-2 record. During the span, Hughes and company had three straight shutouts to open the season. Hughes also contributed one assist during the season.

Martinez, a native of Mesquite, Texas, started in all 17 matches and was an outstanding defensive and offensive player for the Eagles. From her defender spot, she led the team in assists with five. She also had four shots on frame. Behind Martinez's strong play on the defensive end, the Eagles opened the season with five shutouts in six matches. She has played in 50 career matches. 

Schmidt, a native of Colorado Springs, Colorado, had an impact in her first season at Ozarks starting in all 17 matches and accumulating 11 points. She was second on the team in goals (4) and assists (3). She took 24 shots, third-most on the team, and had 16 shots on frame. Schmidt had a two-goal performance and an assist against Lyon College. She took two or more shots six times. 

Solloway, a native of Little Rock, Ark., had one of the top seasons in program history with seven goals, one assist and 15 points. The dynamic Solloway led the team in shots (27), game-winning goals (3), goals and points. Her three game-winning goals ranked third in the ASC. 17 of her shots were on frame. Solloway scored two goals in a big road win against East Texas Baptist. Her other five goals came against different opponents in September. She had a pair of late game-winners against Centenary and Austin College to give the Eagles 1-0 wins.

Wheeler, a native of Rockwall, Texas, was again a consistent force for the Eagles starting in 17 matches. Wheeler had three assists, second most on the team, and scored one goal while taking 11 shots. She created four shots against Concordia. Wheeler's play all over the field lifted the Eagles to its best season in more than a decade with an 8-8-1 overall record. 

Garcia, a native of Clarksville, Ark., started in eight games before suffering an injury. Garcia finished with three goals and three assists in her career. She was a member of the ASC Academic All-Conference Team and the College Sports Communicators Women's Soccer Academic All-District Team during her career.

The Eagles tied for the most wins in school history with eight and set a new program record with six shutouts. The Eagles also posted its best record in more than a decade at 8-8-1.
