Large Crowd Enjoys Women's Wrestling Season-Opener

Addison Loney celebrates a pin against Carl Albert.

Clarksville, Ark.-The women's wrestling team opened the 2022-2023 season with a home exhibition match against Carl Albert State College Tuesday afternoon in front of a large home crowd.

The Eagles came up short against the Vikings, but head coach Charlotte Fowler believes the experience will help as the season progresses.

"It was a cool experience to have this type of environment as our season opener," she said. "It was a good time of the year to be outside and have so many fans there. Our girls worked hard. We have a lot to learn, but this was the first step for us. You have to crawl before you walk, and you have to walk before you run, and then you have to run before you sprint."

Freshman Addison Loney had an impressive debut for the Eagles winning by pin. Loney ignited the large Eagle fan base, which provided an outstanding atmosphere for the Eagles.

Fowler and the Eagles will now take the opportunity to learn from the match and prepare for Lyon College.

"We will go back to review video and focus on some key points we need to work on as a team," said Fowler. "There are also some things we need to work on individually, and then we can build from there."

The Eagles will travel to Batesville November 11 for a dual against the Scots.
