Chababo Debuts With Win At National Championships

Rewa Chababo wrestles at the National Championships in Iowa.

Cedar Rapids, Iowa-Rewa Chababo debuted at the National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships (NCWWC) with a win in her first match at the national championships.

Chababo, a freshman from Houston, Texas, won by fall (1:38) against Yamilex Perez from Adrian College. With the win, Chababo would face Traeh Haynes from North Central College in her second match of the day. Haynes took the match with a win by fall (0:56). Later in the evening, Chababo would wrestle her third opponent of the day taking on Jada Arnold from NCAA II Mount Olive. Arnold would eliminate Chababo from the tournament winning by fall (0:16).

"We are proud of Rewa's hard work this season," said head coach Charlotte Fowler. "She's a trailblazer for our program and will continue to improve as we look to prepare for next year. After qualifying for nationals as a freshman, there is only one way to go for her and that is up. With her work ethic, focus and determination, I know she will be back next year getting some hardware."

Chababo was the first women's wrestler at Ozarks to qualify for the national championships. In her first season as head coach, Fowler guided the Eagles to a seventh-place finish at regionals and one wrestler advanced to the national championships.
