Carl Albert College Women Edges Eagles In Home-Opener

Rewa Chababo wins against Carl Albert State College.

Clarksville, Ark.-The women's wrestling team hosted its 2023-2024 home-opener with a strong performance on Tuesday, but were narrowly defeated by Carl Albert College 19-15.

A large crowd gathered outside to watch the upstart Eagles. After falling behind early in the match, the Eagles responded with a pair of wins to close the gap. Diriann Porras fought to a win by fall against Alondra Valles (Fall 1:40) to ignite the crowd. In the final match, Rewa Chababo took a win by fall against Grace Thompson (Fall 1:18).

Head coach Vinny Barber saw plenty of positives from the match.

"I think we will get better from this," said Barber. "Some of our wrestlers responded well and for some of them it was a good stimulus of pressure. But they learned from this experience and we learned of some good things to go back into the room and work on. Diriann and Rewa went out there and wrestled hard. We are constantly working to get better and I am proud of our team's work."
