Poteau, Okla.-The women's wrestling team had an outstanding showing at the Carl Albert College Viking Open on Sunday in Poteau, Oklahoma.
The Eagles had numerous placers, including Rewa Chababo, who won her weight division. Diriann Porras placed second and Kristen Fonseca placed fourth.
"This was the best performance of the year for the ladies," said head coach Vinny Barber. "They responded to their last performance really well. Every girl leveled up today, fought and went out and competed at an extremely high level. All we ask is for a high level attitude and effort and they gave that this weekend."
Chababo has been dominant thus far in the season and Sunday was no different. She won by fall against Lessly Sandoval from University of St. Mary (Fall 3:40) and then in the finals won by tech fall over Ryann Rumsey Oklahoma City University (TF 10-0). Porras had an impressive outing winning by fall against Adelynn Howat from Ottowa University (Fall 1:45) and then winning by fall against Corin Lowe from Oklahoma City University (Fall 5:40). Porras won by decision over Ariana Mercado from University of St. Mary (Dec 13-5). Fonseca won by fall over Carysa Corrado from Friends University (Fall 0:57) and in the quarterfinal won by tech fall over Amy Jacobs from Lyon College (TF 10-0). She later won by fall over Macey Gross from Ottowa University (Fall 0:32). Additionally, April Stanley won by decision against Iriz Itzel Vasquez from Schreiner University, Clarice Wheeler won by fall over Mikinlee Smith from Ottowa University and Brynn Elkins won by tech fall over Mia Salas from Jarvis Christian University.
