Eagles Drop Lead In Final Inning Of Both Double-Header Games

Clarksville, Ark. – The Eagles got off to a great start in each contest but let the lead slip through their hands in the final innings, dropping game one against Louisiana College 7-4 and game two 13-11.

Ozarks (13-22, 5-15) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game one thanks to a pair of singles through the right side by seniors Dean Igert and Grady Finley. The Wildcats (11-23, 6-14) plated three runs in the third, but Ozarks would answer with a three-run rally in the sixth inning to reclaim the lead. Finley added his third hit of the game with an RBI double to deep right center, then Andres Acosta and Zach Walker strung together back-to-back RBI singles to round out the scoring in the sixth and give Ozarks a 4-3 lead heading into the final inning of game one.

The Eagles brought in Bobby Ketterer (0-1) to close the seventh inning, but an RBI single through the left side and a timely three-run homerun by Deauton Delgado put the Wildcats on top 7-4.

Charlie Waddingham (2-6) recorded the win for Louisiana College after tossing 6.2 innings with only one earned run.

Though the Wildcats got on the board first in game two, Ozarks did not back down and had an explosive second inning, scoring seven runs on three hits. Each team brought two runs across in the fourth and the Eagles maintained a 9-3 lead through four complete innings.

Louisiana College rallied in the fifth, starting with an RBI double and a two-RBI triple. By the end of that half inning, the score was tied 9-9. The lead changed hands two more times over the next two innings, with the game being tied 11-11 through seven complete.

The eighth inning was scoreless on both sides, but a fielder's choice play that was overthrown resulted in the Wildcats claiming a 13-11 lead in the top of the ninth.

The hitting battle ended up 17-9 in the Wildcats favor. Caleb Hemphill had a good day at the plate for the Eagles, going 2-for-3 with 2 RBI. Patrick Clifford also tallied 2 RBI in game two and Zach Jones led all hitters in game two with 3 RBI.

Ozarks will host its final home game of the season at noon on Saturday, with seniors being honored prior to the first pitch. FanFest activities sponsored by Arvest will get underway at 10:00 in the morning.
