GAME ONE

Overview:
The Eagles got an outstanding pitching performance from lefty Blake Benson and the offense battered five Louisiana College pitchers for 13 hits to invoke the run-rule in a 13-0 American Southwest Conference Tournament victory Thursday. The Eagles will play the winner of the East Texas Baptist and Belhaven game tomorrow at 3:00 pm. Benson (2-2) scattered four hits in his complete game win against the Wildcats. Benson only allowed one hit through 4.0 innings of work. The Eagles' offense gave Benson plenty to work with as two runners crossed the plate in the second inning. But it was the third inning that shook the Wildcats when the Eagles plated six runs on six hits. The Eagles recorded three consecutive hits, with Rey Lozano ripping an RBI double. With the bases loaded, Luke Morrison blasted a grand slam to put the Eagles in front 7-0. Josh Stephens had a sacrifice RBI for the final run of the inning. The Eagles crossed the plate again in the fifth on a Wildcat error. Rennie Arjona and Lozano had RBI in the top of the seventh. Benson then retired the side in the bottom half of the inning to end the game. It was the first shutout of the season for Benson and his second complete game. He fanned six. Morrison went 1-for-4 with four RBI. Ben Cross went 3-for-5.

Notables
Blake Benson tossed his first shutout of the season scattering four hits over seven innings. Luke Morrison blasted his second grand slam of the season. Morrison leads the team with 40 RBI.

Coach Aaron Gentry Quote:
"Everyone came ready to hit. We teach that if the ball is in the zone to go for it, and today it just worked out for us. Up and down the lineup, everyone was ready to go. Everything starts with the pitcher and Blake did a great job today keeping Louisiana College off balance because they are a great hitting ball club. Behind Benson, we've had a defense that has shined all season. Defensively, I have been very proud of the way they played."
