ASC Honors Three Men's Basketball Players

Three University of the Ozarks men's basketball players were honored by the American Southwest Conference, it was announced Tuesday (Feb. 26) following a vote of the league's head coaches.

Senior center Cory Wilhelm and junior guard Jacobe Davis were named to the All-East Division Honorable Mention All-Conference Team. Wilhelm was additionally named the ASC Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year and earned a spot on the ASC East Division All-Defensive Team. Freshman forward Coleman Wheeler was named to the East Division All-Freshman Team.

Wilhelm, a 6-foot-7 native of Ratcliff, Ark., shot 66 percent from the field while averaging 5.5 rebounds and 6.1 points per game. Wilhelm went on a tear in the final 11 games of the season, posting four double-doubles during that span. He shot 9-of-11 from the field and scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds against Belhaven. He had a season-high four blocks against Texas Dallas. He ranked seventh in the ASC in offensive rebounds per game (2.2). He didn't miss from the field in five different games and shot over 80 percent nine times. He shot 63.5 percent from the field in his career.

Davis, a 6-foot-1 guard from Little Rock, Ark., ranked among the ASC's top-15 in scoring (14.7) and hit 22-of-54 (40.7%) from the three-point line. He scored in double figures 18 times during the season and scored a career-high 28 points behind four three-pointers against Belhaven. He hit a three-pointer in 15 games and hit 50 percent or better from the three-point line against 11 different opponents. Against Austin College, he scored 14 points, dished out six assists and recorded four steals.

Wheeler, a 6-foot-5 forward from Cave Springs, Ark., played in 15 games and hit 50 percent from the three-point line. Wheeler scored six points behind a pair of three-pointers against Louisiana College.
