THE BASICS

Bryson Johnson's floater in the lane with 10.7 seconds left lifted the Eagles past Sul Ross State 71-70 Thursday night in American Southwest Conference play. Sul Ross State did have the final possession but missed a three-pointer and another shot in the final seconds helping the Eagles secure the game. The Eagles lost the lead twice in the second half, the first coming at the 1:42 mark. Sul Ross State regained the lead with 14 seconds remaining on a layup. But Johnson' shot gave the Eagles the lead for good. The Eagles led at halftime 37-33 even though Tristen Licon scored 15 first half points. Jaxon Ryan came off the bench and nailed a trio of three-pointers in the first half to keep the Eagles in front. Tim Turpin and Seth Duke hit key three-pointers with less than ten minutes to play in the second half to keep momentum on the Eagles' side. Trailing 68-67 with 1:29 left, Darnel Renelique made both free throws to give the Eagles the advantage. Sul Ross forced a turnover with 15 seconds remaining and scored a layup before Johnson hit the game-winner. Johnson led with 17 points and had six rebounds, eight assists and three steals. Turpin posted a double-double with ten points and 12 rebounds.
