THE BASICS

The Eagles avenged an earlier loss against East Texas Baptist University by edging the Tigers on the road 62-58. The Eagles haven't lost since the Tigers handed them a setback January 16. The Tigers were down seven points with about three minutes remaining before cutting the deficit to 59-56. Zach Byrd made a free throw with 2:17 remaining but the Tigers answered with a layup to make it 60-58 at the two-minute mark. The Tigers then went scoreless the rest of the way. The Tigers launched a three-pointer that rimmed out with four seconds left. A foul was called on the rebound to send Bryson Johnson to the free throw line. Johnson calmly sank both free throws with three seconds left to secure the game. Johnson scored six points over a two-minute span late in the second half to give the Eagles momentum. The Eagles shot 42 percent from the field in the game, while the Tigers hit 32 percent.
