THE BASICS
Clarksville, Ark.– The Eagles posted a thrilling 85-83 overtime win against Sul Ross State University Thursday night in conference play behind 37 points from Grayson Nix. The Eagles appeared to have the game under control before Sul Ross State took the momentum around the eight-minute mark of the second half. The Eagles led 62-50, but the Lobos went on a 17-7 run to close the gap to 69-67. The Eagles led the entire second half until the 3:05 mark when Sul Ross tied it 69-69. But Nix drilled a three-pointer to bring the lead back in favor of the Eagles. The Lobos wouldn't go away as they hit a three-point shot to even the score again. Nix made an inside bucket to give the Eagles a 76-73 lead with 1:03 remaining. However, the Lobos took its first lead of the second half on a layup with 29 seconds left. Kamren Roelke went to the free throw line and sank one to tie the game. The Lobos' inside shot wouldn't go with just two seconds on the clock and the game headed to overtime. Kyron Powell provided the Eagles with a 83-80 advantage with 2:28 left in overtime, but Sul Ross made a three-point shot to again tie it. Roelke drove to the basket for a layup and the Eagles had a 85-83 advantage at the 1:28 mark. Neither team would score again. The Lobos got an inside shot that seemed to hang on the basket for an eternity and then roll out in the final seconds. The ball remained with the Lobos with .2 seconds left but the visitors couldn't score. Nix had 19 points and hit four three-pointers in the first half. He ended the game hitting 15-of-22 from the floor, including 6-of-10 from the three-point line. The Eagles shot an impressive 52 percent from the field in the game.
