THE BASICS
Clarksville, Ark.– The Eagles let a 39-37 halftime lead slip away as Howard Payne University came back to pick up a 76-72 win Saturday in conference play. The Eagles built a 32-20 lead with 5:12 remaining in the first half only to have Howard Payne go on a 15-4 run to pull within 36-35. In the second half, Dillon Cheater drilled a three-pointer to give the Eagles a 47-41 advantage. But Howard Payne took a 50-48 lead at the 14:52 mark. Howard Payne built a 62-53 lead with under eight minutes to play before the Eagles went on a 12-6 run to close the gap to 68-65. The Eagles then cut it to two points on three occasions, but Howard Payne answered each time to secure the win. All five starters for the Eagles reached double digits in scoring with Cheater leading the way with 17.
