Mills’ Goal Propels Playoff Bound Ozarks To 1-0 Win

Austin, Texas-Sophomore forward Thomas Mills scored the game-winning goal in the 36th minute to push Ozarks past Concordia University Texas 1-0 Saturday in American Southwest Conference action.

Ozarks (9-7-2, 5-3-2 ASC) qualified for the conference playoffs under first-year head coach Matt Torok. The tournament will be held Nov. 6 and Nov. 8-9 in Richardson, Texas on the campus of UT-Dallas. It is the 12th time in program history the Eagles have advanced to the playoffs. More details about the playoffs will be released later tonight when all ASC matches are complete.

"It was a great team effort today by the boys," said Head Coach Matt Torok.  "I am so proud that the boys came together and decided to put the playoff picture in their own hands. It was a situation where they took control of their own destiny."

"Concordia was a well-balanced team that sent a lot of guys forward into the attack.  We had to deal with their size and defend all over the field.  We scored a great goal and then managed to hang on.  Over the course of our past two matches, we got away from what we do well and that's defend and work hard. We will enjoy this tonight, but we will start to prepare for the playoffs once we learn who our opponent will be."

Mills took a cross into the box and connected for his third goal of the season. Bryce Young and Tony Ramos assisted on the goal. The Eagles had an improved offensive performance from the previous day against Mary Hardin-Baylor. Ozarks outshot Concordia (5-9-3, 0-6-3 ASC) 9-6 in the match. Shaun Keane posted three shots on his own.

Austin Benner had two saves in goal for Ozarks.
