Men’s Soccer Team Battles Rhodes To 1-1 Tie

Memphis, Tenn.-The men's soccer team battled Rhodes College for 110 minutes and came out with a 1-1 overtime tie in Memphis Sunday afternoon at the Volgas Memorial Tournament.

Ozarks (1-0-2) totaled eight shots and four corner kicks alone in the first half, but it was Rhodes (0-1-1) that led 1-0 at halftime. Thomas Mills and Layne Garcia had back-to-back shots within the first eight minutes of the match. Mills went on the attack again and forced Rhodes goalkeeper to make a pair of saves in the 19th and 22nd minutes. Moments later Rhodes would net a goal in the 25th minute. In the second half, Bryce Young scored to even the match 1-1. Young recorded his goal in the 74th minute on an assist from Zahir Bracey. Both teams finished with one shot each in the second overtime after not recording any in the first overtime.

Ozarks held a 17-8 shots advantage and a 7-5 corner kicks advantage in the match. Mills had three shots to pace Ozarks.

Austin Benner remains unbeaten on the season and had two saves in the match.

Ozarks will face Westminster College September 11 and Webster University September 12 in Missouri.
