Clarksville, Ark.-The University of the Ozarks men's soccer team had six players receive All-Conference honors from the American Southwest Conference, the league office announced Tuesday, November 7.
Junior forward Thomas Ross earned All-Conference Second Team honors. Freshman defender Spence Jean Baptiste, junior midfielder Miguel Reyes and junior defender Matt Samaniego earned All-Conference Third Team honors. Junior defender Bradley Rice and junior defender Manny Torres received Honorable Mention All-Conference honors.
Ross, a native of Heath, Texas, led the team with five assists and tied for the team lead in points with seven. His five assists were tied for the most in the league. Ross scored a goal and assisted on another against LeTourneau. He totaled 16 shots on the season. A starter in 16 games, he had three shots against two opponents.
Baptiste, a native of Tabarre, Haiti, started in 15 matches and recorded three goals and 16 shots. He posted a season-high three shots against Louisiana College and had two shots against three other opponents. His three goals tied for the team lead.
Reyes, a native of Canyon, Texas, scored three goals and recorded one assist. His seven points tied for most on the team. Reyes scored two game-winning goals to tie for the team lead. He led the team with 25 shots. He had three shots against two opponents and totaled nine multiple-shot games. His two game-winning goals tied for fifth in the ASC.
Samaniego, a native of San Antonio, Texas, started in all 18 games and scored three goals with one assist. His seven points tied for the team lead. He also tied for the team lead with two game-winning goals and tied for fifth in the ASC in that category. He totaled 11 shots on the season. He had two shots and the game-winning goal against Concordia. A team captain, he earned All-Conference honors last season. Samaniego was named to the ASC All-Tournament Team following his performance in two post-season matches.
Rice, a native of Fort Smith, Ark., started in nine games and saw action in 16. Rice totaled five shots on goal during the season. Rice's defensive presence helped Ozarks notch seven shutouts, fourth-most in the ASC. Rice was named to the ASC All-Tournament Team following his performance in two post-season matches.
Torres, a native of Keller, Texas, started in 17 matches for Ozarks. Torres was a key player in the Eagles' defensive efforts throughout the season, helping Ozarks own a 1.19 goals against average. His stellar play in the back helped Ozarks notch seven shutouts, fourth-most in the ASC.
Ozarks advanced to the ASC Championship Tournament for the 15th time in program history. It was the second consecutive season under head coach Aaron Brueckner.
