THE BASICS
Drew Mott scored a goal just before halftime and then added the game-winner in the 87thminute to push the Eagles past Belhaven University 2-1 Friday in their American Southwest Conference opener. Mott connected on a penalty kick with only 26 seconds remaining in the first half to give the Eagles a 1-0 advantage. The Eagles kept the pressure on in the second half but Belhaven scored the equalizer in the 76th minute. But the Eagles pressure was too much for the Belhaven defense as the home team recorded ten shots. Eventually Mott broke through and rebounded a ball in the box for the game-winner. Overall, the Eagles had 16 shots and held Belhaven to four.
