ASC Championship Tournament Quarterfinals

THE BASICS
The Eagles advanced to the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament semi-finals by virtue of a 4-3 penalty kicks advantage against Mary Hardin-Baylor Friday afternoon. The two teams played to a 2-2 draw after two overtimes and then headed to an intense showdown to see who would advance on in the tournament. The Eagles started the penalty kick round, but couldn't score after a save by the visiting goalkeeper. The Cru buried their first shot to put pressure on the Eagles, but Drew Mott calmy made his attempt. Logan Valestin blocked the Cru's next attempt and Jonathan Julmiste followed with a clean shot to give the Eagles a 2-1 advantage. The Cru evened it to 2-2 on their next attempt. Kyle Seymour answered by burying a shot in the back of the net. The Cru responded with another shot in the back of the net to make it 3-3. From there, the Eagles couldn't get their next attempt to go in, but Valestin made a big diving save to his right to give the Eagles the momentum. Daniel Lyon provided a clutch shot with one in the back of the net and the Cru's next attempt went high to give the Eagles the advantage. The Eagles got a beautiful goal from Mott in the 19th minute for a 1-0 lead. Neither team would score again in the first half as it remained 1-0 in favor of the Eagles. The Cru hit a high slow floating shot from 35 yards out that went in to even the score 1-1 in the 48th minute. The Cru took the lead in the 51st minute to gain momentum, but Seymour rose above defenders and headed one in at the 78:25 mark to make it 2-2. Both teams had fair chances to score in overtime but couldn't connect. The Cru had 14 shots overall while the Eagles produced ten.

"It was two really good teams going at it today," said head coach Aaron Brueckner. "It was a dramatic, emotional game. There were many shifts of momentum throughout the game and that's what happens when two good teams play. I was proud of the guys for battling back after being down a goal. We knew Logan would step up in a penalty kick shootout like he has before."
