THE BASICS
Superb soccer on both sides resulted in a 0-0 draw against the Eagles longtime rival Hardin-Simmons University Saturday on Senior Day. The Cowboys and Eagles are third and fourth, respectively, in the current standings, and Saturday's match proved how close the two teams are in American Southwest Conference play. The double overtime tie saw each team with chances to score, but the defenses came up big to keep the match scoreless. The Cowboys owned a 10-3 shots advantage in the first half, but with ten minutes remaining star forward Daniel Lyon ripped a shot that forced Cowboy goalkeeper Reid Applewhite to make a diving save. With a large crowd cheering on the Eagles, Caleb Anderson came up with six saves, none bigger than on a shot by Jaden Barnwell in the 68th minute. Anderson reached high to knock the potential goal away. With four seconds remaining in regulation, Barnwell took a shot in the box that Anderson was able to scoop up. It was the Eagles fifth shutout of the season. The Cowboys held a 23-15 shots advantage in the match.
