Men's Swim And Dive Team Finishes Sixth At SCAC Championships

San Antonio, Texas-The men's swim and dive team wrapped up competition at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships in San Antonio Saturday and finished sixth overall.  

That will end the season for the Eagles.

In the 1650 free, Joel Coppernoll placed fifth with a time of 17:41.63. In the 200 back, Michael Vargas posted a time of 2:26.62 for 13th place. In the 100 free, Michael Walkine placed 28th with a time of 52.96. Bertram Gibson was 31st with a time of 56.70. Wiley Grantham was 32nd with a time of 1:01.33 and Jakobe' Durant was 33rd with a time of 1:06.99. In the 200 breaststroke, Nicolai Van Zyl was 12th with a time of 2:15.78. Nicolas Dunsworth followed at 13th with a time of 2:20.40. In the 200 fly, Coppernoll swam a 2:12.95 for tenth place. Gustavo Almaraz was 13th with a time of 2:14.98. Isaiah Dial was 15th with a time of 2:16.44. In the 400 free relay, Walkine, Coppernoll, Dunsworth and Van Zyl swam a 3:27.76 for seventh place. Gibson, Vargas, Dial and Almaraz swam a 3:45.83 for 14th place. 

The Eagles set new school records at the three-day competition. Van Zyl broke his own record in the 200 breaststroke (2:15.78). Dunsworth now owns the second fastest time in school history in the 400 IM (4:36.89).
