Men's Swim And Dive Have Highest Finish In Program History

The Eagles had the highest finish in program history at the SCAC Championships.

Garland, Texas-The men's swim and dive team wrapped up competition at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships in Garland, Texas Saturday and finished fourth overall.  

It was the highest finish ever for the men's program.

In the 200 medley relay, the Eagles placed 13th with a time of 1:49.09. In the 800 free relay, the Eagles place 13th with a time of 7:58.72. In the 200 free relay, the Eagles placed fifth with a time of 1:28.99. In the 500 free finals, Joel Coppernoll placed 11th with a time of 4:49.07. Isaiah Dial was 16th with a time of 5:06.24. In the 200 IM of the preliminaries, Tyler Young placed 27th with a time of 2:29.06. In the 200 IM of the championship finals, Ethan Spillers placed ninth with a time of 1:58.55. In the 50 free of the preliminaries, Nicolai Van Zyl placed 20th with a time of 22.49. In the 400 IM, Spillers finished eighth with a time of 4:18.31. Nicholas White, Tyler Hamrick and Matthew Shelton placed 11th, 12th and 13th, respectively. In the 100 fly, Dial placed 19th with a time of 58.03. Gustavo Almaraz placed 22nd with a time of 59.58. In the 100 breaststroke, Nicolai Van Zyl placed ninth with a time of 59.58. In the 100 back, Coppernoll placed 16th with a time of 57.30. In the 100 back of the preliminaries, Spillers was ninth with a time of 54.63. Hamrick and Young finished 17th and 18th. In the 400 medley relay, the Eagles placed fifth with a time of 3:38.85. The team included Coppernoll, Van Zyl, Spillers and Dial. The team of Hamrick, Matthew Shelton, Almaraz and White placed 13th with a time of 3:58.84. In the 1650 free, Joel Coppernoll placed sixth overall with a time of 17:06.25. Wiley Grantham, Shelton and White placed 10th, 11th and 12thTyler Hamrick was the team's top finisher in the 200 back with a time of 2:06.53. White swam a 2:16.19 to finish 13th.  Grantham placed 14th with a time of 2:22.04. Michael Vargas placed 15th with a time of 2:25.18 and Young placed 16th with a time of 2:25.38. In the 200 breaststroke, Nicolai Van Zyl placed eighth with a time of 2:13.88. In the 200 breaststroke preliminaries, Shelton placed 19th with a time of 2:28.05. In the 200 fly of the preliminaries, Isaiah Dial was 14th swimming a 2:07.55 and Almaraz was 16th with a time of 2:11.91. In the 400 free relay, the Eagles finished fifth with a time of 3:17.84. The team consisted of Spillers, Coppernoll, Dial and Van Zyl. The group of Shelton, Hamrick, White and Young placed 13th with a time of 3:38.93. In three-meter diving, Vargas placed sixth with 192.10 points. In one-meter diving, Vargas was sixth with a score of 228.20. 

Tyler Young was the team's representative on the SCAC All-Sportsmanship Team.
