Van Duijn, Turner Named All-Conference

Clarksville, Ark.- University of the Ozarks men's tennis players Melle Van Duijn and Spencer Turner received All-Conference honors from the American Southwest Conference, it was announced Saturday (May 5) by the ASC.

Van Duijan, a sophomore from New Zealand, made the All-Conference Team in singles and doubles in flight one. Van Duijn was named to the All-East Division First Team in singles (flight one). Van Duijn was additionally named the ASC Newcomer of the Year. Turner, a senior from Pearcy, Ark., earned All-Conference honors in doubles in flight one with Van Duijn. The duo also earned All-East Division First Team in doubles.

Van Duijn posted a team-best 10-6 record at No. 1 singles and went 4-1 against league opponents, the third-most wins in the league. His 10 wins are the fifth-most in program history for a season and he tied for third-most among No. 1 singles players in the conference. Van Duijn and Turner went a perfect 5-0 in doubles in the conference, including a 8-6 win over ranked UT-Tyler. The duo went 7-3 overall together. Van Duijn is now tied for the third-most doubles wins (12) in a single season at Ozarks. He was named ASC Player of the Week twice during the season.

Turner went 8-8 in singles, including 3-0 at the No. 4 position. He was among the top-5 in the ASC in singles wins. Turner had nine overall doubles wins, placing him among the top-5 in the conference. He ranks sixth all-time in singles wins at Ozarks with 29. He also ranks among the top-10 at Ozarks in career doubles wins (14). He was named ASC Player of the Week once in 2018 and received the university's male ASC Scholar-Athlete Medal of Honor award.

Ozarks qualified for the American Southwest Conference Tournament for the fifth consecutive season in 2018.
