Men’s Tennis Team Wins Sportsmanship Award

Richardson, Texas – The University of the Ozarks men's tennis team was one of eight American Southwest Conference member institutions recognized by the conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as recipients of ASC-SAAC Team Sportsmanship award for the spring 2018 sport seasons.

The SAAC Team Sportsmanship award honors the member institution in each ASC championship sport that best displays positive qualities of sportsmanship and fair play from its student-athletes, coaches and fans throughout the season. The spring 2018 awards are presented in baseball, men's golf, women's golf, softball, men's tennis, women's tennis, men's track & field and women's track & field with each of the 13 campus SAACs voting within the sports it sponsors.

In men's tennis, Ozarks was a first-time recipient in the East Division, while Sul Ross State were the West Division honoree for the fourth time (2010, 2011, 2013).

Howard Payne University was the recipient in baseball and co-recipient in both men's golf and women's tennis (West Division). It was the fourth time the Yellow Jackets have won in baseball (2011, 2014, 2017) and second time in tennis (2016). Howard Payne earned men's golf honors for the first time.

Hardin-Simmons University was the co-recipient in men's golf, women's tennis (West Division) and women's track & field. The Cowboys won the men's golf award for the first time since 2015.

McMurry was the winner in softball during its inaugural season. The War Hawks were also the co-winner in women's track & field.

UT Tyler were the SAAC Team Sportsmanship Award winners in men's track & field and co-winners in women's tennis East Division. The Patriots, who were also the 2018 ASC men's track champions, earned that sport's honors for the fourth time (2011, 2012, 2014), while tennis was a first-time recipient.

East Texas Baptist were the co-winners in the women's tennis East Division for the first time.

ASC Champion Mary Hardin-Baylor won the women's golf award for the second time in three seasons (2016).

The ASC SAAC Team Sportsmanship Award is presented for the 11th year during the 2017-18 sport seasons.
