Overview:
The softball team's historic run to the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament came to an end Thursday as Texas Dallas took a narrow 5-4 win. The Eagles (10-22) mounted a late inning rally to even the score in the top of the sixth, but Texas Dallas scored the game-winning run in the bottom half of the inning to end the Eagles' season. The Comets (24-17) led 3-0 after three innings, but Ozarks wouldn't go down easily in its first appearance in the Tournament. With the bases loaded in the fourth, Kieara Bryant was hit by a pitch to bring in the program's first run in the tournament. Taylor Teague singled to center field in the next at-bat, and the Eagles trailed just 3-2. Texas Dallas then recorded back-to-back outs to end any further damage by the Eagles. The Comets added a run in the bottom of the fourth, but the Eagles again rallied to even the score 4-4 in the top of the sixth. With one out, Hannah Oler doubled and with two outs Teague singled in the run. The Eagles weren't done as Riki Haase doubled in Teague to tie the game 4-4. However, the Comets recorded three hits in the bottom of the sixth, with the key RBI coming with one out. Katie Ventress then induced a double play to get out of the frame. The Eagles went down in order in the top of the seventh to end the game. The Eagles qualified for the ASC Champoinship Tournament for the first time in program history in 2018.
