Hardin-Simmons Women Net Overtime Win; Hipps Scores 35 Points

Abilene, Texas-Hardin-Simmons University raced back from a four-point deficit with three minutes left in overtime to pull out a 93-88 win over Ozarks in American Southwest Conference play Saturday.

The loss overshadowed a tremendous effort from senior guard Ashley Hipps. Hipps scored 35 points behind a 8-of-15 performance from the three-point line and a 5-of-5 effort from the free throw line. Hipps, who finished 11-of-21 from the field, also dished out 11 assists.

With the score tied 80-80 after four quarters, Ozarks (5-4, 1-3 ASC) hit back-to-back three-pointers to take a 86-82 lead with 2:53 remaining in overtime. But the Cowgirls (5-10, 3-3 ASC) scored the next nine points to secure the game.

The fourth quarter ended in a flurry as Hardin-Simmons drilled a three-pointer with nine seconds left to take a 80-77 advantage. But Hipps drilled her eighth three-pointer of the game with seven seconds remaining to send the contest into overtime.

Ozarks held a 37-33 lead at halftime and outscored the Cowgirls in the first, second and fourth quarters.

Bryanna Moltz
scored 22 points, grabbed nine rebounds and blocked four shots. Tyler Adams pulled down 12 rebounds.

Ozarks will host LeTourneau University January 14 and Texas-Tyler January 16.
