Richardson, Texas-Roseanna Ezell and Spencer Turner were two of twenty-six graduating student-athletes from the 13 American Southwest Conference member institutions honored by the conference and their institutions as 2017-18 ASC Scholar-Athlete Medal of Honor recipients.
The ASC Scholar-Athlete Medal of Honor is presented to one male and one female member of the graduating class who has compiled the most outstanding record in academics, athletics and leadership over their collegiate career. The award is presented annually by the Faculty Athletics Representative at each conference member institution. Ezell and Turner received their awards at the 2018 OZZY awards.
Ezell, a women's basketball player majoring in Accounting, was a four-year letterwinner and also represented the team on the ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Team. A three-time member of the ASC Academic All-Conference Team, Ezell graduated Summa Cum Laude. Her campus involvement includes being a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She is a native of Quitman, Arkansas.
Turner, a member of the men's tennis team majoring in Accounting, wrapped up his tennis career ranked among the leaders at Ozarks in most singles and doubles wins. He finished his career among the top five in career singles wins. Playing No. 1 doubles this season, Turner ended his career in the record books ranked among the top 10. He also earned All-ASC honors as a senior. A two-time member of the ASC All-Academic Team, Turner was on the Dean's List during his collegiate career and graduated Cum Laude. Additionally, he lettered in cross country while at Ozarks. He is a native of Pearcy, Arkansas.
Recipients of the 2017-18 ASC Scholar-Athlete Medal of Honor represent 13 different conference sports and include individuals who graduated with academic honors, hold admission to graduate-level programs, are members of academic honor societies and campus organizations; competed on national, conference or division title teams; earned ASC All-Academic, Distinguished Scholar-Athlete and All-Conference honors; and who served as volunteers, tutors and mentors within the campus and the community.
