Clarksville, Ark.-Former University of Wyoming wrestler Doyle Trout was named the new University of the Ozarks assistant men's and women's wrestling coach, it was announced by the athletics department this week.

Trout, a native of Waco, Nebraska, wrestled at Wyoming from 2016-2020 after receiving a medical redshirt his freshman season. Prior to his career at Wyoming, Trout won four state championships at Centennial High School in Nebraska wrestling at 120. He was the 25th wrestler in Nebraska history to win four state titles and only the second in Class C. During his senior season he was named a FloNationals All-American. He was ranked as high as No. 12 during his high school career. He was named the Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award winner in 2015.

"We are pleased to welcome Doyle to the staff," said assistant head coach Vinny Barber. "Doyle adds a wealth of wrestling knowledge and experience. We are excited for him to be able to work with our athletes. Having a lightweight coach on staff has been something we have been working on for a while, and we couldn't be happier to add such a high level competitor like Coach Trout."

Wrestling at 125, Trout posted seven wins in both his senior and sophomore seasons at Wyoming. He accumulated 21 career wins for the Cowboys. Trout began his redshirt freshman season with a win in the Cowboy Open. He went 5-1 at the UNK Holiday Inn Open his sophomore season. The Cowboys finished among the NCAA Division I mid-major top-25 poll all four years of his career.

"I'm grateful to be in a position to help others achieve their goals in a sport that has helped me so much in my life," said Trout. "The program has had recent success and is building momentum within the NCAA Division III community. With a lot of wrestlers on the roster, I will be able to help a large scale of student-athletes. I want to promote the mission of the university. I want to spread the message about what Ozarks is academically and athletically."

"My goals with the women's and men's team are to challenge them to be the best person they can be on a daily basis," said Trout. "The ultimate goal is to win a national title individually and as a team. To reach that goal, it takes hard work every day. I don't want them to waste time, but I also want them to have fun, love wrestling and enjoy the process at the same time".

Shortly after winning his fourth high school state title, Trout was in a nearly fatal car accident where he lost one of his legs. Flowrestling featured Trout's story in a video "Doyle Trout – Still Standing". The inspirational feature video can be seen here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XpYpL8VCp4
