Zamora Fuels Ozarks To Historic Win Over Texas-Dallas

Clarksville, Ark.-The women's soccer team defeated Texas-Dallas for the first time since 1998 behind a two-goal effort from freshman Katherine Zamora in a big 2-1 American Southwest Conference win Thursday.

Previous to the match, Ozarks had just one win in its last 18 tries against the Comets (11-6-0, 5-3-0 ASC). Under Head Coach Natalie Dryer, the Eagles improved to 3-4-0 in conference play, already the most league wins for the program since 2009.

"I'm so proud of this group of ladies," said Dreyer. "They played with passion and played for each other. I emphasize every day is a new day to climb the ladder and we just took one more step today. We now have to get to work tomorrow and prepare for Saturday's match."

Ozarks (4-9-2, 3-4-0 ASC) possessed the ball for a considerable amount of time in the first half and played stout defense to keep the Comets off the board. Ozarks' attack generated four shots in the first half, while goalkeeper Maggie Johnson notched two saves. Ozarks nearly put a shot in the net with just seconds remaining in the first half, but Madison Chaney's attempt in the box went wide.

The Comets would strike first with a goal in the 60th minute to hold a 1-0 lead. But Zamora scored a beautiful goal in the 67th minute to even the match 1-1. Tiffany Robinson received the assist. Prior to that, Frances Adams sent a rocket towards goal only to have the Texas-Dallas goalkeeper make a save. Eventually the Eagles powered past the Texas-Dallas' defense with Zamora scoring the game-winner in the 75th minute. Robinson again had the assist. From there, the Eagles' defense was able to hold off the Comets. A last second shot that found the net by Texas-Dallas was ruled too late.

Texas-Dallas posted eight shots in the final 45 minutes of play. Ozarks had four shots in the second half and Johnson made four saves in the second half. Chaney finished with four shots to lead Ozarks.

Ozarks will host Howard Payne University October 24 for Senior Day. Seniors Hannah Carter, Haley Gilliam, Morgan Markham and Eustacia Templeton will be honored following the match that day.
