THE BASICS
Clarksville, Ark.-With a playoff spot on the line, the Eagles rose to the occasion and came away with a 1-0 win over LeTourneau University Thursday afternoon.
The Eagles took advantage of a handball in the 30th minute. Jessica Alvarado delivered a perfect shot in the right corner past the goalkeeper for a 1-0 advantage. In the second half, the Eagles nearly scored twice within 25 seconds of each other. Kailey Barnes and Bella Salazar fired shots that hit the crossbar in the 84th minute. The Eagles took eight shots in the second half and ended the game with a 14-3 shots advantage. Sydney Frazier earned the shutout in goal and posted one save in 90 minutes of action.
Head Coach Natalie Dreyer was pleased with how the team played in a big situation.
"Our girls knew going into this game it would be a battle," said Dreyer. "We knew everything was on the line today. The girls played with grit as a whole unit to get the job done today."
Dreyer was especially proud of the team for advancing to the post-season after overcoming adversity during the season.
"We've been really close to the making the playoffs the last couple of years," said Dreyer. "It was just a matter of getting over the hump and breaking through. That has been our goal since August. We've had a lot of highs and lows this season. I couldn't be more proud of them for fighting through the adversity they've faced."
Playoff tournament brackets will be announced after Saturday's final games.
