Eagles Explode For 16 Runs In First Win

Freshman John Burgess, a native of Winona, Texas, pitched five innings and had seven strikeouts to pick up the win. It was the first collegiate start for the 6-0, 180 pound right-hander. It was also a memorable day for Clint Phifer. Phifer, who is also a freshman, went 3 for 3 from the plate and hit two home runs. Phifer, a catcher from Benton, Arkansas, drove in 5 runs. "It was good to get our first win," said head coach Jimmy Clark. "We hit the ball real well in the first game. I was also pleased with the way we pitched. In the second game we just didn't really come out and play hard." The Eagles dropped the second game 7-5. Senior Chance Lawless recorded two hits and one run batted in. Brandon Bain had two runs batted in the losing cause. The Eagles will travel to Arkadelphia on February 19 to take on NCAA II Henderson State University.
