Mississippi College Downs Eagles

Ozarks (10-11, 1-5) scored a quick five runs in the first inning to jump out to a 5-0 lead stunning the visiting Choctaws, but Mississippi College (13-4, 6-0) answered with three runs in the second, fifth and sixth innings in the come-from-behind win. Justin Brown started the hit parade with a single through the left side. Caleb Hilton also reached on a single, giving Ozarks runners on first and second. Anthony Brandon then singled to left field to knock in Brown. Clint Phifer followed with a hit and knocked in Hilton. Cliff Ford doubled to center field scoring Brandon and Phifer. Ozarks would get their sixth straight hit when Rusty Farrin singled in Ford and finish the scoring in the inning. The Eagles completed the inning with five runs on six hits. Mississippi College, however, took a 7-6 lead after five innings of play and scored three runs in the sixth to end any hopes of an Ozarks' comeback. The Choctaws out hit the Eagles 11-9, recording six home runs in the contest. Phifer went 2-for-4 with one RBI. Ford led the team with 2 RBI. Brian Heckmann (2-3) received the loss after pitching four and one-third innings. Heckmann had two strikeouts in the contest. The Eagles were unable to recover from an 8-0 deficit after one inning as Mississippi College took the second game of the twinbill 14-1. Ozarks had eight hits in the contest, with Josh Underwood leading the team with two. Rusty Farrin (0-1) received the loss. The Eagles host Elmhurst College on March 22 at 1 p.m.
