Hinson Fans 12 In Choctaw Win

Hinson (7-2) did give up 12 hits during the game, but Ozarks (15-17, 9-7) stranded 11 runners on base. Jeremy Hogan doubled in David Smith in the first inning for the first run of the game. Mississippi College (20-13, 10-3) came right back and scored a run in the bottom half of the inning. The Eagles scored again in the second inning, this time coming on a John Scheuring RBI single. Bruce Cameron and Todd Koch recorded back-to-back single to start the third. Cameron would eventually steal home to give Ozarks a 3-1 lead. It was a short-lived lead though as the Choctaws answered with two runs in the bottom of the third to tie the game 3-3.

Hinson then held the Eagles scoreless the rest of the way. He fanned eight over the next four frames to hold off any type of Ozarks' rally. Cameron reached base on a double to open the fifth inning, and later advanced to third on an error. With one out, Hogan got on base on a fielder's choice and then stole second. But Hinson quickly erased any threat as he struck out the next two batters.

Koch (2-4) tossed six innings to take the loss.

Smith, Cameron, Hogan and Rusty Cordell all had two hits.

The series will continue tomorrow with a double-header starting at 12:00 p.m.
