Eagles Open Season With Convincing Win

Ozarks (1-0) roughed up five Hendrix pitchers while holding the Warriors (0-1) scoreless in the first three and one-third innings of play. Ozarks senior first baseman Todd Koch broke a scoreless game with a single up the middle to score a pair of runs in the third. Hendrix manufactured a run in the top of the fourth to narrow the gap to 2-1. Ozarks answered with back-to-back big innings to gain control of the contest. Ozarks scored four times on four hits in the bottom of the fourth, highlighted by a two-run triple by David Smith. In the fifth, Ozarks would again score four runs, this time on three hits. Holding a 10-3 lead, the Eagles added a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh to put away the Warriors. 

Jonathan Cox went three and one-third innings, fanning five and allowing just one hit. John Scheuring, Bill Smith and Bobby Osburn also logged time on the mound for Ozarks. Smith (1-0) received the win after working three innings.

Ozarks offensive attack was led by Bruce Cameron's 3-for-4 performance. Cameron finished with 2 RBI and 2 runs. Smith and Cory Briggs each went 2-for-5. Smith drove in 3 runs and scored four times.

Ozarks will travel to Jackson, Mississippi, to play in the Wilson/DeMarini Classic February 6-8. The Eagles will face Rhodes College Friday, Millsaps College Saturday and LaGrange Sunday. Live stats will be available on Ozarks web site.
