Ozarks improves to 9-14 overall and 4-4 in the American Southwest Conference while LeTourneau falls to 10-15 overall and 2-4 in league play. The Eagles will travel to Conway to face Hendrix College March 30. Ozarks will then take on ASC foe Louisiana College in Pineville, Louisiana, April 1-2.
In game one, Briggs scattered six hits through seven innings and allowed just one earned run. LeTourneau was the first to score when it put a run on the board in the fourth. Ozarks can back in the bottom half of the inning when Scott Dietz drove in Jeremy Hogan, who had previously reached on a double. The Eagles then tallied three hits and took advantage of three LeTourneau errors in the fifth to take a 4-1 advantage. That would be enough for Briggs, but he did have to work his way out of a jam in the sixth inning. LeTourneau recorded a two-out double in the seventh, and Briggs again had to keep the visitors off the board. And he did just that when the senior right-hander got the power-hitting Charles Johnson to strike out swinging.
Tad Turner finished 2-for-2 with a run. Hogan and Dietz each went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Briggs, who issued only two walks, improved his record to 2-1.
Dietz homered twice in game two, including a grand slam in the first, to power the Eagles past LeTourneau.
Chris Driedric opened the bottom of the first with a double to right center. Mitchell Powers then drew a walk, and Briggs recorded a sacrifice bunt to move each runner over. Hogan got a free base when he drew another walk to load the bases. Dietz made the YellowJackets pay by smashing a grand slam over the left field wall to put Ozarks ahead 4-3. Starter Bobby Osburn then held LeTourneau scoreless in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings. Osburn went five innings, struck out five and was replaced by Jonathan Cox. Ozarks added a run in the fifth when Powers hit his first collegiate home run, but LeTourneau scored twice in the sixth to tie it 5-5. Ozarks used a four-run sixth to move ahead 9-5. Ian Bryan, Turner, Driedric and Powers each had RBI in the frame. Dietz wasn't done though as he hit a solo shot in the seventh, giving him a team-leading six this season. After LeTourneau answered with three runs in the eighth, Briggs hammered a three-run shot to extend Ozarks' lead to 13-8. Bill Smith collected his third save of the season after tossing two and two-third innings. Cox (2-4) received the win.
