Briggs, Dietz Named ASC Players of the Week

Briggs earned the nod as a pitcher while Dietz garnered it as a hitter. Both were instrumental in fueling the Eagles to a three-game sweep against LeTourneau University over the weekend.

Briggs, a 6-foot senior right-hander from Greencastle, Pa., tossed a complete-game with six strikeouts to earn the win in Saturday's 4-2 victory. Briggs scattered six hits and walked just two batters over the seven frames. He fanned two batters in the seventh and also helped his own cause by driving in a run in the sixth inning. He improved his record to 2-1 with the win. He has had five appearances on the mound this season, and owns a 4.10 ERA with 29 strikeouts in 26.1 innings of work. Briggs, who is among the top two-way players in the region, has done damage with his bat as well, hitting .293 with five homers and 17 RBI. A three-time All-Conference player, Briggs received All-America honors in 2008 at shortstop.

Dietz, a junior first baseman from Rowlett, Texas, went 7-for-10 with two home runs, one triple, one double and seven RBI in three starts against LeTourneau. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound right-handed hitter also scored five runs and walked once. In game three of the series, Dietz recorded both his long balls with one being a grand slam in the first inning. He ranks fourth in the ASC in home runs (6) and sixth in slugging percentage (.734). He owns a .359 average and has 16 RBI. Dietz earned All-Conference in 2008.

Ozarks will travel to Pineville, Louisiana, to face Louisiana College in a three-game set April 1-2.
