Three-Run Ninth Inning Too Much For Eagles

Michael Skimbo scattered three hits over five innings in his first start of the season. The freshman left-hander fanned three but was charged with three earned runs. Skimbo faced a 2-0 deficit after the first frame when Oklahoma Wesleyan (4-2) scored twice on a two-run double. Oklahoma Wesleyan added to the lead with an RBI single in the third. Ozarks (2-4) answered with a run in the bottom half of the third when Kurt Shemanske doubled in Brandon Brewer. Skimbo wouldn't allow another run the rest of the way.

Ozarks mounted a two-out rally in the fifth to cut the deficit to 3-2. Brewer singled up the middle to set up Shemanske, who promptly ripped a double to center field to score Brewer. Oklahoma Wesleyan got the run back in the sixth to take a 4-2 lead. Neither team would score again until the ninth and that came when Oklahoma Wesleyan loaded the bases on relief pitcher Bobby Osburn. With no outs, JD Nalder stroked a single to score a pair of runs. Nalder would eventually score from third base when Andrew Murphy stole second.

Skimbo (0-1) took the loss. Osburn tossed four innings and struck out five.

Shemanske had a solid day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. Tony Morales finished 2-for-4.

Ozarks will host Simpson College in a three-game set this weekend beginning with a Friday double-header starting at 12:00 p.m.
