Eagles Pound Out 18 Hits In Loss To No. 9 Patriots

The Eagles (13-16, 2-7 ASC) tagged the conference's No. 1 pitching staff for 18 hits and ten earned runs. Texas-Tyler (23-7, 9-3 ASC) came into the game with a conference-low 2.72 ERA. But Ozarks' offense kept the contest close Friday as it rallied on more than one occasion to pull within striking distance. After falling behind 12-9 heading into the bottom of the ninth, Zac Mitchell launched his second home run of the day over the left field wall to pull the Eagles within 12-10. With two outs, Dean Igert laced a single up the middle to put the hot-hitting Freddy Prince at the plate. Prince, who was 5-for-5 prior to his last at-bat, would fly out to end the game as the Patriots escaped with their conference-leading ninth win.

Texas-Tyler opened the game with three runs on three hits, but Ozarks battled back to score twice in the bottom half of the first behind RBI from Nick Brill and Tony Morales. Prince singled in a run in the second to pull Ozarks within 5-3. Texas-Tyler scored three runs in the fourth, but Ozarks again answered with two runs in the bottom half of the frame as Mitchell cranked out a two-run homer. The Eagles then evened the score in the sixth, 8-8, on three hits. Prince remained hot as he doubled in a pair of runs and Sam Shook recorded an RBI for the eighth run. Ozarks plated another run in the eighth to climb within 12-9.

Rodger Montano (2-3) took the loss in relief.

Prince posted a 5-for-6, 3-RBI performance at the plate. Jordan McGee went 4-for-5 with three runs and Mitchell drove in three.

Ozarks will host Hendrix College April 2 at 3:00 p.m.
