Tough Luck Eagles Drop Third Straight One-Run Game

Tough Luck Eagles Drop Third Straight One-Run Game

In a three-game series that could have gone either way, LeTourneau (18-11, 8-7 ASC) came out with a sweep Saturday after winning game one 2-1 and game two 4-3 in extra innings.

The Eagles (13-19, 2-10 ASC) have lost six one-run games this season.

In game one, Tyler Erickson threw a four-hitter with three strikeouts, but Ozarks' defense committed a costly error in the fourth to allow the game-winning run to score. Ozarks plated a run in the top of the third on a Freddy Prince RBI single. Dean Igert scored the run after reaching base on a double.

Ozarks out hit LeTourneau 8-4, but stranded seven runners. Prince and Taylor Parker each finished 2-for-3.

Erickson (4-3) received the loss, but did not allow a walk and only one of his runs were earned.

Ozarks left 12 runners on base and again out hit LeTourneau 11-7 in its game two loss. LeTourneau produced a run in the fourth to move ahead 1-0, but the Eagles responded with two runs in the sixth on three hits. Tony Morales and Mitchell Powers each had RBI in the frame. LeTourneau answered with a dramatic two-run homer in the eighth before Ozarks evened the score 3-3 in the ninth. Ozarks had four hits in the frame, with Sam Shook driving in the tying run on a single.

In the bottom of the tenth, Prince recorded back-to-back strikeouts to mount pressure on LeTourneau. However, the Yellow Jackets got a clutch two-out single to plate the game-winning run.

Prince (0-2) received the loss in relief. Ian Bryan tossed seven innings as the starter and did not allow a hit until the fourth frame.

Morales and Peyton Johnigan each went 2-for-4.

The Eagles will travel to McAlester, Oklahoma, to play Austin College April 9.
